Meet the Governors

Governing Body

The Governing Body is a key part of any school; it's constitution and responsibilities are set out in various Acts of Parliament.

The Governing Body has three key roles:

  • Setting the strategic direction of he school
  • Monitoring the work of the school by reviewing the performance of the head teacher
  • Ensuring financial viability

When setting the school strategy the Governing Body works very closely with the school's Senior Leadership Team.  The Leadership team are responsible for the implementation of the strategy and the day-to-day management of the school.

Membership of the Governing Body

The Governing Body consists of individuals from the various stakeholders in the school.

  • The school staff (teaching and non-teaching)
  • Parents of children in Hertfordshire schools
  • The local community
  • The Local Education Authority (LEA)

Structure of the Governing Body

The Governing Body meets as a full group and has one sub-committee.  Each Governor has an area of responsibility and is expected to report to the Governing Body at least once a year; in addition the governors review the various school policies on a regular basis.  Governors meet regularly each term alternating between Committee meetings and full Governing Body meetings.

Governors visit the school throughout the year attending social events, training and engaging in dialogue with staff and to complete learning walks.
