Our Strap-line: a 'verbal' logo, summarising the school vision
Our Strap-line - 'Proud to be Special, Proud to be Different' reflects:
- that we are a SPECIAL, not a mainstream school and we are PROUD of that fact. We are EXPERTS in our field so we DO THINGS DIFFERENTLY as a result, based on research and the latest thinking. If you come to Haywood Grove, don't expect the same.
- that we acknowledge our UNIQUE children's needs as real and recognise the impact on their life chances and on the live of their families. By being different we believe we can make a difference.
- that coming to Haywood Grove means our children are able to accept who they are and recognise thier own strengths and weaknesses.
- that we are proud of who we are as a community, what we do as a community and of the unique place which we work. We are unashamedly biased in favour of our children and the work that we do and promote this at every opportunity with each other, with professionals and to the public.
- that our staff develop the DISTINCT and EXCEPTIONAL qualities needed to work at Haywood Grove. We too are different and need to be. We are PROUD of that.
Our logo encapsulates our educational philosophy (what the school wants for its children and community), ethos, vision and values.
It shows a sapling (signifying the growth and development of a young child) being nurtured (bottom hand) and protected (top hand).
It conjures up an image of young plants with capacity for growth within a suitable environment.
Our logo also represents our curriculum: The Helping Hands Curriculum.
The digits on the bottom hand (nurturing) represent the academic elements of the curriculum offer, incorporating the National Curriculum and school offer.
The digits on the top hand (protective) represent the wider curriculum offer.
More information about this is found in the Curriculum section of our website.
Our Ethos:
This represents the culture and character of our school. It's how people feel when they're here and the shared beliefs that we hold. It's the environment that we create to make sure people can achieve the vision.
Our Vision:
A statement that clearly and simply states what our school aspires to be
Our community succeeds because of our belief in its people.
Using nurture and innovation we support each other to discover potential and realise dreams.
Our Values:
Our guiding principles that are demonstrable in everyone's attitudes, behaviours and actions. They represent our beliefs and philosophy, support our vision, and shape our culture.
These are encapsulated in

Our Mission
What we are doing now to achieve our vision
At Haywood Grove, we have a passionate conviction that all our children can achieve. We are optimistic about success and accept no restriction on what is possible for all people in our community. We work respectfully and responsively with our families to ensure that the impact of our support can be seen both at school and home.
At Haywood Grove, we demonstrate high expectations for every child, through a high-quality, creative curriculum and flexible teaching that addresses each individual child's learning and social emotional and sensory needs. We get to know the children's talents, their strengths and their weaknesses and build their learning around these, in addition to facilitating the accumulation of knowledge and skills across a broad and balanced range of subjects.
At Haywood Grove, we view behaviour as communication, we listen to what children say and what they don't say, and we engage in collaborative problem-solving with them to find solutions. We understand that their behaviour is driven by high levels of stress and support and teach them the explicit skills they need to return to a state of calm alert, ready for learning.
At Haywood Grove, we prepare our children for the next part of their educational journey and beyond, shaping their lives for the better. They become independent, resourceful, resilient, and humane members of the wider world. They know their own worth and the positive contribution they can make to their own families and to a civil society.
